Speaking of studio trickery
Some great BBC programming giving first-hand insight into the creation of some of Pink Floyd’s masterpieces; from the band and also producers including Joe Boyd and John Leckie.
Why does stuff like The Floyd, The Beatles still resonate four decades later? Will the BBC be making docs about Lady Gaga, Tiny Tempah or Pixie Lott in 40 years. With recording downsized from studio to studio flat, what of the producers themselves? Who will be our future Boyds, Leckies, Martins; our Hannetts, Dres, Timbalands and Dangermice?
And will we want to hear what they have to say. Players like John Leckie, Martin Hannett and Dr Dre were on a cutting edge. They innovated because they had to – they couldn’t pick from 300 different styles of reverb in a drop-down menu.
Even if you’re not a fan of this kind of thing, tune in to imbibe their spirit.
